About CineRank

CineRank is a global movie discovery engine covering 1,236,712 films from more than 250 production countries in 175 languages. It exists to answer one question well: what are the best movies in any category, according to real audience data?

How rankings are calculated

Every ranked list on CineRank uses a weighted scoring model rather than a raw sort by average rating. Raw averages are misleading — a film with a handful of perfect scores would outrank a classic with hundreds of thousands of votes. Our score applies a Bayesian prior to each rating source: a movie’s score is pulled toward the global average in proportion to how few votes it has, then blended with signals from additional rating sources and a popularity component. The result is a ranking where broadly acclaimed films rise and statistically insignificant ones do not.

What we deliberately avoid

  • No fabricated ratings, reviews or editorial claims.
  • No doorway pages — every collection must contain a minimum number of movies with real rating data before it is created.
  • No keyword stuffing or hidden text.
  • No affiliation with any movie database provider, studio or publication.
